Getting started
Installation
Install animfetch on Arch, Nix, any Linux or macOS with the install script, or from source.
Pick whichever suits your system. They all install the same single binary.
Arch Linux#
From the AUR, with your helper of choice:
paru -S animfetch-bin # prebuilt binary
paru -S animfetch-git # or build from the latest sourceanimfetch-bin is built from the GitHub release; animfetch-git builds from
the repository's HEAD and needs the Rust toolchain.
Nix and NixOS#
Run it without installing:
nix run github:Andrew-Velox/animfetchOr add it to your own flake.nix:
{
inputs.animfetch.url = "github:Andrew-Velox/animfetch";
}Then put it in your NixOS packages:
environment.systemPackages = [
inputs.animfetch.packages.${pkgs.stdenv.hostPlatform.system}.default
];or in Home Manager:
home.packages = [
inputs.animfetch.packages.${pkgs.stdenv.hostPlatform.system}.default
];Any Linux or macOS: the install script#
A prebuilt binary, no Rust needed:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Andrew-Velox/animfetch/main/install.sh | shIt picks the right build for your system and puts the binary in ~/.local/bin
(or /usr/local/bin when run as root). Two environment variables change that:
| Variable | Meaning |
|---|---|
ANIMFETCH_BINDIR | Where to put the binary. |
ANIMFETCH_VERSION | A release tag to install, such as v0.1.6. The latest by default. |
Builds exist for Linux (x86_64 and aarch64, statically linked with musl) and macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). The tarballs and their checksums are also on the releases page.
The script needs curl or wget. Make sure ~/.local/bin is on your PATH.
From source#
With Rust 1.88 or newer:
cargo install --locked --git https://github.com/Andrew-Velox/animfetchTo build a checkout yourself, see Contributing.
Check it worked#
animfetch --version
animfetch --once--once prints a single static frame and exits, which is the quickest way to
see that it runs. Then head to the quick start.
